Vecna (slash Henry slash One) figured out how El did the thing to fix Max, and since the gates were already open and connected, he didn't actually need to keep the victims to keep them open, but he isn't stupid, and knows that he's going to need liches generals for whatever battle is going to come next.

But the problem is, he doesn't have the same kind of finesse with this thing that El does, and more than that he made the mistake of starting with Chrissy, who had died scared, yes, but fear turned over into anger as easily as breathing as soon as she was breathing again, and she wasn't about to listen to anything he had to say and just marched herself right back home.

Obviously there have been some... adjustment pangs while she tries to settle back into a life that doesn't fit her anymore, but one of the things that dying taught her is that there's not much else to be afraid of, and more than that, it taught her who actually has her back.

What she doesn't know, can't possibly know, is that Vecna let her go, like he did Nancy before her, but not for the information she was going to deliver, but for the information she'll bring back with her when he calls her back.
